LA HOUSE
The LA House is a residential project based in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles, California. The project consists of closed rooms floating within a greater glass building to create ‘a house within a house’. Because of the narrow shape of the lot and low landscape, the view planes from the building must be focused inward. Gardens, pool-scapes and the architecture itself become the focuses from the building. The study model, seen here, is at 1:20 scale and primarily showcases the northeast side of the proposed house. Unlike the other presentation models (shown throughout this booklet), this model is largely made from printed textures that imitate actual materials. The paper textures are then applied to harder surfaces - matte board and medium density foam - to create architectural elements. Other materials used in this project include scale pine-profiles for the window frames and columns, and harvested flora from the Haldenstein area, to imagine the model’s landscape plants.
